Igneous Rock is formed way below the Earth's surface, In all of it's magma and lava. When magma and or lava cools and hardens it creates Igneous rock. Igneous rock can be classified in three ways, as origin in which Igneous rock can form on or beneath the Earth's surface. Texture, the texture of an Igneous depends on it's shape and size of its mineral crystals. Then there is mineral composition. These characteristic can help classify something as an Igneous rock. When Igneous rock takes is at its highest temperatures and takes thousands of years to cool, it creates larger crystals. Igneous rocks that are not at there highest temperatures don't need that much time to cool so they form smaller crystals.
Igneous rocks were separated into two different categories by scientist, Extrusive and intrusive rocks. Rocks which are formed below the surface and rocks that are formed above the surface. Those which start below the surface are called Intrusive and those that start on the surface are called extrusive.
Igneous Rocks are used for many things that include, granite, basalt, and pumice. If you may not have noticed we see Igneous rock all time in our lives. Granite is used on headstones in grave yards and on counter tops and from a whole different range of things. Basalt was also used a long time ago for statues and even roads. It is used now to grind up other rocks, Sense basalt is so hard. You use pumice when you take a bath, Pumice is a very rough rock and it is used to scrap of dead skin.
